I started this shawl in July thinking it would be a quick project that would be nice for summer. Then I'd have a shawl to bring to the office for days when I can't get warm at my desk. But then I bought a house in August and the shawl was cast aside for a few months as I packed and unpacked boxes and completed house projects. I would pick it up to knit a little here and there, but I'd lose track of what I was doing, forget the pattern, start from scratch with learning it all over again.
I also started and finished a bunch of other things while I was knitting this. Hats for me and others, baby gifts, etc.
Finally, I decided I needed to finish it and wouldn't cast on any new projects until I finished it. And unsurprisingly, I finished pretty quickly.
I didn't follow the pattern exactly as written. The inner triangle was supposed to look different with a more triangular shape, but I forgot that when reading a chart you knit the purls and purl the knits on the wrong side. Oops! By the time I realized my mistake, I had already finished the inner triangle and decided it looked fine as it is.
I probably would have enjoyed this more if I had finished it all at once instead of in so many bursts, but I think it turned out nicely, even with a few mistakes. The yarn is really lovely wool from Brooklyn Tweed. The color is deep purple. The pattern is Brora and can be purchased from the Brooklyn Tweed website or Ravelry.
Instead of keeping it, I gave it to my mom as an Easter gift. She's more of a shawl person anyway. Plus she's been experimenting with some color in her grey hair (streaks of purple!) so I thought it would be the perfect accessory for her new trendy look.
